NNHS CAPS Proposal Questions/Items

General Information

1. Name- Matthew Kinsella

2. Email- Matthewkinsella332@gmail.com

3. Cell Phone #617-981-9598

4. CAPS is a way into something, not out of something. CAPS is a way to investigate an idea

or a passion in more detail. What positives do you see coming from this experience? I have a large interest in the music recording industry and audio engineering. I do personal recording work at my home or in school but I want to experience this industry in a larger scale and I the actual real world, and I think the CAPS program is a great way to do this.

5. Are you interested in pursuing an industry investigation internship, or designing your own

research project? (Internship, Research, I’m not sure) Internship

Internship Specific Questions

6. Describe your proposed internship. Where will you be interning? If you don't have an

internship lined up, what type of internship are you looking into and most importantly, what

have done to initiate the process of securing an internship? (Be as specific as possible.) I am hoping to get an internship in some field involving audio engineering, whether it’s in a music studio, doing sound for radio/ Tv stations, etc. So far I have called 4 businesses trying to get an intern position. I have spoken with two businesses over the phone and have plan to meet with the audio director at Newton TV

7. Describe how you will efficiently use your time, knowing that there's the official internship

hours to satisfy, a web portfolio to work on/build, and a presentation to prepare for. (CAPS

internship students are required to participate in a minimum of 25 hours/week.)- I will tell these businesses I am looking for at least 25 hours a week. And I will make sure that I am able to schedule around any conflicts I may encounter.

8. What makes you excited about this internship? I have a strong interest in this field and would love to be able to have hands on experience within this field and have the opportunity to work in some form of audio engineering. I am planning to major in audio engineering during college and I am excited to find an internship in this field to further my knowledge of the industry itself.

9. What are your concerns? (Fulfilling hours? Professional/formal communication?

Maintaining a website? Presentation skills? Transportation? Scheduling issues?) I have a job at star market and I will have to figure out how to work around that or tell them that I will not be able to work at this time. I have my parents car most of the time and will be able to find some other form of transportation if I was unable to use a parents car.

10.What commitments do you have during the 2nd semester? (Please be specific. Include

plans for travel (personal or school sponsored trips/exchanges), sports, theatre, musical

groups, etc.) I may play hockey but I am not sure yet.

11.What classes do you anticipate keeping during your CAPS Internship in addition to

English? (CAPS Internship students are required to keep all GRADUATION REQUIREMENT

classes. (This includes your English course.)) My English class, and possibly my math class, as well as my PE class.

12.Please describe any experience(s) you've had that have helped prepare you for this. (List

work and/or volunteer experience. Describe any background or prior knowledge you have with

this topic. Or explain why you are interested in this completely new topic.) I have played guitar for the last 10 years, and recently began recording covers of famous songs. I have some experience in recording and mixing/mastering music.

19.What commitments do you have during the 2nd semester? (Please be specific. Include

plans for travel, sports, theater, musical groups, etc.) May play hockey but am not sure yet.

20.Which classes do you anticipate keeping during 4th term? (We encourage students to

drop ALL nonrequired courses, though we hope students will keep NO MORE THAN 2.)

21. How will you know your success? What will it look like? What is the tangible product of

your work? (Be as specific as possible.) For my planned internship at NewTv I will be working with a group of college students to put together a production for a final project. All the projects I will work on will be evidence of my success.

Question if You’re “Not Sure” (Hopefully This Isn’t the Case)

22.Even if you're unsure, brainstorm some ideas you might be interested in pursuing. (After

responding, you can click the "back" button to choose, and see Tim Finnegan, Steve

Gianquitti, Erin Dalbec, Annette Tate, Steve Chinosi, or your counselor for more info.)
