Week of 2/23-2/27
This week was my busiest week at NewTv so far. My first day started off with me going out and soliciting for a perks program that NewTv is soon to start. Basically what I did was go out to local businesses and local restaurants and explained to them what this program was, NewTv would provide the company with free advertising in exchange for giving members and employees of NewTv discounts. Later I was asked by Mike to go help set up for a shoot we were doing later that night. I helped the producer create a set as well as set up cameras in desired angles which I easily learned how to correctly do. Shortly before the shoot began Mike taught me as well as another member the basic functions of the switcher( controls which camera is shown on screen). When it came time for the actual shoot I sat and watched other members as they controlled the switcher and audio to learn even more about how everything was controlled. The next day Mike gave the other two interns and I a list of equipment and an explanation of what he wanted us to do. We all then went to the studio and began to set up what Mike had asked. We were to set up lights a set and three cameras for a basic interview to practice. I learned how to set up for three point lighting, one light the backlight which lit the background, a cue light the light that would point directly at the person being interviewed, and then the fill light this light would fill in any dark spots and shadows that were seen so everything was lit well. I also learned how to troubleshoot with a problem we encountered with one of the microphones we were using, it wasn’t producing good audio with volume it was very faint. I first switched the cables that didn’t work, then I switched the actual microphone that didn’t either, finally I put the optional battery into the microphone and it began working correctly. Normally this shouldn’t be needed but for some reason the mixer we were using was unable to power both the lavalier and boom mic we were using so the battery gave it that extra boost of power. Later in the week I had my last Adobe Premier class were I learned how to white/color balance video incase when it was recorded it was not color and white balanced correctly. The next day we had a small shoot were Mike asked us to set up two cameras, two microphones, two chairs, and what ever else was needed for a two person show. This was the first time I actually controlled the audio board which fortunately for this shoot was fairly straight forward all I had to do was adjust the levels for both of the speakers microphones, and adjust the levels for the movie clips the guest had brought in.
