Week of 3/2- 3/6
This week has been my biggest learning week at NewTv so far. I had my first field shoot, the other two interns and I went to Newton North to film a senate event in the cafeteria. NewTv was in charge of filming the event only, we brought all of our audio equipment because we were unsure if we if we needed to set up the audio as well, however in the end we didn’t have to because there were people who set up all the audio equipment necessary.
Later in the week I took part in a class where I learned the basic controls for the cameras at NewTv such as how to put them in focus, and zoom in and out. During this class I also learned how to turn everything on in the control room and the basics for operation all the equipment in the control room such as the teleprompter, and the switcher. I also learned a few new things about the audio board such as that when you press the select button above a certain channel it allows you to adjust the gain for that channel, which basically increases the amplitude of the sound being outputted.
On top of learning all these new things about the equipment at NewTv, I also was asked to make an excel document and list all the members of NewTv and some of their basic information such as their join date, when their membership expires, and what type of member they were, etc. Even though this task was extremely boring I know that it was an important one. The last thing my boss, Michael Sills(Mike), showed us for the week was a camera called the Canon 5d. This was a camera that appeared to be for photograph, however this specific camera was designed to record video as well, and Mike taught us how to use the camera and let us fool around with it afterwards. This week was full of both work as well as down time.
